Message from the National Secretary

Hi everyone

Your union is gearing up for negotiations for many enterprises across our industry over the next couple of months.

Based on the feedback from members, it is clear to me that the same old issues keep resurfacing so as negotiations begin, be assured the FSU will be very specific about what it will take to resolve and relieve the pressure on members and provide fairer and more secure working conditions.

I encourage all members to become actively involved in the campaigns as they unfold.

Further below, you will also see a notification about the FSU fee increase effective July 1. This is a 3% increase on current membership fees to ensure that the FSU continues to improve and provide the best support and representation available to our members.

Please note that fees were not increased last year.

Thanks to everyone who are downloading the new FSU Mobile Phone App – it’s a useful resource for you and the FSU. More than 500 members have downloaded and registered so far: keep it up

Speak soon.

"We want jobs, not pizzas!"

FSU members successfully stopped the ANZ bank from undermining redundancy protections earlier this year but it seems members need to keep stepping up to protect their jobs.

Credit Assessment Officers in Retail Lending Operations at Docklands, whose jobs were made redundant recently and who were given notices of retrenchment, discovered a few days later that their jobs had been readvertised on two leading jobsites.

The FSU wrote to the bank raising members’ concerns that these were not genuine redundancies and members distributed handouts that questioned "who approved the job ads?" and "why didn’t ANZ offer the jobs to employees on redeployment?"

The FSU National Executive were in town for the ACTU Congress this week and ANZ National President, Dolly Jensen, was on board to front up and help get the message out to workers.

ANZ’s response? Soon after FSU members stepped up and got employees involved, it bought pizzas for the entire floor of the Credit Assessment Officers. Members said we love pizza as much as the next person, but pizza does not pay the bills: ‘we don’t want pizza, we want our jobs back’.

Great work from the FSU Representatives at ANZ Docklands!

Westpac Claim: Securing our future pay and conditions together

Negotiations are about to begin for a new Westpac Group Enterprise Agreement and it’s one of the most important we’ve had in years.

A comprehensive survey throughout the wider Group - Westpac, St George, Bank of Melbourne, BankSA and BT - showed employees want secure pay, job security and a framework that provides them with choice and control in their daily working life.

Workplace meetings are currently underway throughout the country to discuss the Claim and a vote will be held to endorse it.

Make sure you register for the meetings and stay in touch with what’s happening with the campaign, via our three bloggers.

FSU CBA Claim: A new EBA for all

The FSU proposal for a new CBA Group Enterprise Agreement will also be nutted out in the coming weeks.

The key issues for the CBA Group, which includes Commsec, Comminsure and Colonial, are pay, staffing and workloads, hours of work and targets.

Like Westpac, meetings will be held soon to hear the full details of the FSU proposal so make sure your team is represented

If FSU members support our proposal, we will ask CBA to formally commence negotiations for a new Enterprise Agreement based on our proposal.

Membership subscription review

The FSU National Executive has reviewed the FSU membership subscription and endorsed an increase of 3.0% to membership fees for the 2015/2016 financial year.

The National Executive factored in increased operating costs in the next twelve months and note that the increase is necessary to ensure the FSU can maintain the current level of service to members.

Refer to above table for new standard fees, effective from the 1 July 2015. Click here for the full list of fees.

FSU fees include GST and are tax deductible.

EOFY statements will be issued in July to members paying FSU membership fees by Direct Debit or Credit Card. Make sure you receive your EOFY statement by updating your details now.

Workers' compensation rights at risk

The Federal Government is looking to introduce the worst changes ever proposed to workers' compensation in this country.

If passed into law, they would immediately affect workers at National Australia Bank, CBA, Reserve Bank and Bankwest, as well as any other company who decided to move into the Comcare scheme.

Make sure this doesn’t happen: write to the cross bench senators (especially those from your state) and urge them to vote against these unfair laws.

Paid parental leave update

We’ll be fighting the Abbott Government’s plans to strip the government funded parental leave payment of $11,500 from new parents who have employer provided paid parental leave.

The ‘double dipping claim’ is a fallacy and we aim to protect this provision in upcoming Agreements.
