IT’S OFFICAL – THE AUSTRALIAN BANKERS ASSOCIATION NOW HAS A PRIME MINISTER AS ITS VERY OWN PUPPET

Finance Sector Union of Australia Media Release.

30 November 2017

National Secretary of the Australian Finance Sector Union, Julia Angrisano, has expressed serious reservations about Prime Minister Turnbull’s rationale for a Royal Commission into the banking sector.

For many months now, this Government has been saying there is no need for a Royal Commission. The Turnbull Government has said:

  • It’s too expensive
  • It will take too long
  • There are other inquiries in place, and
  • It would undermine international confidence in the sector.

“Doggedly, they have stuck to this line for many months, yet today, after receiving a green light from the banks, the PM has announced a Royal Commission,” Ms Angrisano said.

“Who is pulling the strings here? Has the Government already spoken to the banks about the Terms of Reference?"

“Who is running Australia? The banks or Prime Minister Turnbull?”

“Having folded on the Royal Commission after receiving a letter from the banks, Mr Turnbull must now give Australians a guarantee that the banks will have zero involvement in drafting Terms of Reference,” Ms Angrisano said.

“Our union wants a fair, transparent and prosperous financial services industry that Australia can be proud of. And, Australians don’t want ordinary bank workers thrown to the wolves by bank executives.”

“We need an industry that is fair to customers, fair to workers, and fair to shareholders.”
