The Finance Sector Union of Australia (FSU) is losing a long-standing and highly respected official as National Assistant Secretary Geoff Derrick leaves to take up a new role with Sally McManus's team at the ACTU.
“Geoff Derrick has made an enormous contribution to the FSU over the past 33 years and while we are sorry to see him go, we know that he will make an even greater contribution to the Australian trade union movement as a campaign co-ordinator for the ACTU,” said FSU National secretary Julia Angrisano.
“Geoff has given extraordinary service to banking, finance and insurance workers during his time with the FSU,” Ms Angrisano said.
“He has been a stalwart who led the union through significant challenges and battles on behalf of our members.”
“Geoff was there during times of huge change in the finance industry. His deep knowledge and understanding of the banks and their culture has always been of enormous assistance as we fought for fairness and justice for our members.”
Ms Angisano said Geoff was widely respected by FSU members and employers, as well as the broader labour movement.
“Geoff’s departure will be a huge loss for the FSU but it is fitting that a man with such broad experience, integrity and commitment to working people, will now be taking the fight to the Turnbull Government.”
