We heard it on the Grapevine “WE DON’T DO RDOS HERE AT THIS BRANCH – AND THAT’S JUST THE WAY IT IS! “

The correct answer is in the Westpac Group Enterprise Agreement 2019 (EA).

It appears unilateral decisions to refuse employees their right to access RDOs have been made in some workplaces.  The Westpac EA sets out your rights and entitlements including what steps Westpac must undertake in consulting with you about RDOs.

Working Full time

WBC EA Clause 11.4 Rostered days off states (in part) –
"...if you are an unpackaged full-time employee, on one weekday in each 4 week cycle you will not be required to work any ordinary hours…"

It also says –

"If you prefer not to have a rostered day off, or if you change your mind and want to have a rostered day off, let your manager know in writing and we’ll consider your request..."

Know your Rights

Put simply, not having an RDO, or opting out of this entitlement is your choice. If you wish to retain your entitlement to an RDO then the business must roster your hours of work to give you one weekday off in each 4 week cycle.

During recent workplace visits the union has received feedback that this is not the case in many branches.
