ANZ Melb Airport Closure: Union + bosses to talk

Last week ANZ announced it would close its Melbourne Airport branch on August 12, having failed to secure a continuation of its longstanding lease at the airport.

The bank lost in a competitive tendering round, however rumours about the branch closure had been circulating within the network for some time and it is possible that ANZ knew months ago it wasn’t going to be the successful bidder.

In its announcement, ANZ advised that 12 employees would be placed on redeployment as a result of the closure.

However, staffing issues have been deeply felt across the ANZ branch network for some time and it is feared the bank may not able to absorb these jobs within the network.

ANZ employees, understandably, are anxious to hear what will happen to their jobs.

On behalf of members, the FSU will be speaking with ANZ change consultants this week to discuss exactly what the bank intends to do to alleviate some of the anxiety felt by impacted employees.

It is our goal to ensure every effort is made to save jobs and let employees know their rights when it comes to redeployment and redundancy.

Impacted employees are invited to meet with the FSU 9am Thursday 21 July 2016 at Melbourne Airport where we will be providing members with support and advice about what to expect during the consultation process.
