Dealing with retrenchment
Retrenchment can affect anyone working in the finance sector, regardless of age, gender, education or position.
Being retrenched is a life-changing event. For most people there are immediate consequences which require fairly quick action. Some of these consequences include no longer having a regular income and having a lump sum of money that needs to be managed in a way that meets both short and long term lifestyle needs.
The Finance Sector Union recognises how difficult it can be to deal with retrenchment and has created a booklet to provide helpful information to assist FSU members deal with the challenges that retrenchment brings.
The booklet provides general information on topics such as financial advice, getting a new job, starting up your own business and government assistance. It also provides a comprehensive list of useful contacts.
The Deailing with Retrenchment booklet is available free of charge to FSU members. Please note that it does not cover information regarding the retrenchment provisions specific to any single employer.
